Accreditation

In 1999, SFO Museum became the first museum located in an airport to be accredited by the American Alliance of Museums (AAM). It remains the only airport program to hold this distinction. This status recognizes top-tier excellence in education, public service, and collections care. Following its latest reaccreditation in 2019, donors and lenders are able to continue to confidently trust SFO Museum with the proper care, handling, and curatorial stewardship of their objects. As of 2026, only 1,131 of the 30,000+ museums in the United States have achieved AAM accreditation.
