As an AIOC intern, you will support a 24/7 operations center that serves as the central hub for coordinating airport activities and enhancing the overall guest experience. You will assist with monitoring operational conditions, supporting communication and coordination efforts across departments, and contributing to real-time problem-solving initiatives. Working alongside teams in security, dispatch, facilities, airlines, and operations, you will gain exposure to how a large, complex airport maintains efficiency, safety, and responsiveness. Responsibilities may include data tracking, reporting, administrative support, and observing how technology and collaboration are used to manage day-to-day operations and respond to emerging issues.
As an Airside Operations intern, you will support the Airside Operations team responsible for maintaining safe, secure, compliant, and efficient operation within SFO’s post-security/outside (Airside) environment. An easier way to explain is “from the moment passengers enter a jet bridge to board their plane till the second their plane lifts off a runway, they are Airside Operations’ responsibility.”
Airside environment is where aircraft operate and receive service and cargo is loaded and unloaded. Various projects that an intern could assist with are operational coordination, data tracking, and project management and administrative support. This internship offers exposure to an Airside/Airport Operation at a large hub with a unique runway configuration and complex airport environment. As the AirTrain Data Intern, you will contribute to SFO’s on-campus rail transit system, a crucial infrastructure component which connects Airport guests to their flights and employees to the workplaces. This role is focused on conducting a comprehensive origin-destination survey of the AirTrain system. The successful candidate will, under guidance and supervision, design a sampling plan, conduct robust on-board counts, and prepare a final report with graphs, charts and overall findings about origins and destinations within the AirTrain system. This internship provides exposure to transportation planning, program coordination, and sustainable transit operations, preparing you for future careers in urban planning, transportation management, and mobility program development.
As the MarCom intern, you will work side-by-side with a creative team of content creators and communicators in a fast-paced and fun environment. You will have the chance to participate in a wide-variety of MarCom activities like: supporting in-terminal passenger engagement activities, building skills in social media, website development, maintenance and content updates, video and photo production, creative writing, advertising campaigns, search engine optimization, marketing legal and regulatory requirements, and marketing data analysis.
As a Custodial intern, you will support operations that ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming airport environment. You will assist in administrative coordination and/or projects related to inspections, inventory tracking, reporting, and administrative coordination related to facility cleanliness and maintenance standards.
As a Design & Construction intern, you will support teams responsible for the planning, design, and delivery of airport projects. You will gain exposure to various phases of project development, including planning, design coordination, and construction activities. Under the guidance of experienced professionals, you may assist with project tracking, document management, research, and administrative coordination while learning how architecture, engineering, and construction teams collaborate on large-scale airport projects. This internship offers a valuable opportunity to develop foundational knowledge in infrastructure development and project management within a complex and dynamic SFO airport environment.
As an Airport Director’s Office intern, you will have an opportunity to join our administrative professionals team working in a fast-paced office setting. You will support a range of general office duties that include providing front desk receptionist coverage, greeting guests and employees, answering, and transferring phone calls, managing conference room bookings, processing guests’ parking validation, issuing temporary badges, proofreading and updating essential documents, and other administrative functions as required.
As an SFO Treatment Plant intern, you will support facilities and infrastructure initiatives that focus on sustainability, system efficiency, and long-term resilience across airport operations. You will gain exposure to critical systems that support water treatment, energy use, and environmental compliance within a large, complex airport environment. Under the guidance of experienced staff, you will assist with data tracking, reporting, and administrative coordination related to infrastructure projects, including energy efficiency upgrades, water conservation efforts, and maintenance of essential systems. You may also support initiatives tied to climate resilience, such as shoreline protection planning and sustainable infrastructure improvements.
The Facilities Intern will gain exposure to daily operations by observing routine inspections, basic maintenance tasks, and repair procedures across airport facilities. Under the mentorship of experienced staff, the intern will develop an understanding of preventive maintenance practices and infrastructure upkeep. In addition to hands-on learning, the intern will also gain experience with the administrative aspects of facilities management, including updating maintenance records, organizing work orders, supporting scheduling processes, and navigating general office procedures. This internship offers a well-rounded introduction to both field operations and administrative functions within a large-scale airport facilities environment.
As an Accounting intern, you will support financial record-keeping and reporting processes within the Airport. You may assist with data entry, invoice review, account reconciliation, and maintaining financial records while gaining hands-on experience with accounting systems and fiscal compliance in a public sector environment.
As a Finance intern, you will support the Airport’s financial operations, including budgeting, reporting, and financial analysis. You will assist with data tracking, research, and administrative coordination while gaining exposure to how a large public enterprise manages revenue, expenses, and long-term capital planning.
As a GTU intern, you will support the daily operations of the airport’s ground transportation program, which oversees services such as taxis, shuttles, limousines, and buses. You will assist with processing permits, reviewing applications for compliance with airport rules and regulations, and supporting customer interactions with transportation providers. Under the guidance of experienced staff, you will gain exposure to financial and administrative functions by assisting with record keeping, invoice verification, data entry, and reporting using automated systems. Additional responsibilities may include tracking transportation activity, organizing documentation, responding to inquiries, and supporting compliance efforts through basic field observations.
As a Landscaping intern, you will support the beautification and environmental upkeep of airport grounds. You will assist with planning, coordination, and maintenance efforts that enhance the overall appearance and sustainability of SFO’s outdoor spaces.
The Talent Mobility team oversees SFO’s Career Pathway Programs (internships, apprenticeships, trainee programs and fellowships) and supports internal mobility through professional development services, learning, and initiatives. As a Talent Pipeline Program Team Leader, you will contribute to the success of SFO by supporting SFO’s Career Pathway programs. Tasks include assisting with onboarding and offboarding program participants, organizing workshops, developing, issuing, and monitoring surveys, creating marketing communications, event planning, attending job fairs and networking events, supporting career readiness activities and tours, creating handbooks, conducting outreach, and managing volunteer coordination.
SFO is seeking a dedicated intern to support initiatives that foster an inclusive and engaged workplace.
